Welcome to the Caseino
A virtual museum devoted to casein plastics.

Casein was manufactured using a by-product of the dairy industry, skimmed milk which was for many years considered to possess little, if any, food value. This was converted into a plastics material used to make all manner of fancy goods, especially buttons.
It is less than 20 years since casein plastics were manufactured in quantity, so many people would have handled them every day, not only as buttons but also fountain pens, propelling pencils, knitting needles, knife handles, dressing table and manicure sets or, even, gaming chips. Even so, few people can readily identify casein plastics.
The aim of this website is to make this beautiful material which attracted the attention of a queen, better known and appreciated.
